Gift-giving has always been a challenge for me.

Published by under Random Thoughts

Hey – you know us. We’re supposed to be “fashionable”, “neat”, and “well-dressed”. Ha! I would say that I am, yes. I do like to wear fashionable clothes and I am very picky with clothes. I do alright I guess when I’m picking clothes for myself. I do have a problem sometimes picking gifts for others… specially for my friends’ kids.

I am usually invited to my friends’ children’s parties. It’s tough because I normally don’t shop for kids. Do they like toys better than clothes? Or vice versa? It’s a toss up really. I just want to be able to go to website and shop for really cool clothing for kids. I like giving clothes as gifts because at least, I have a little taste in the matter.

I didn’t think you can find Ed Hardy clothes for kids or Misha Lulu. I even found knuckleheads clothes on this site and I was having quite a ball browsing through their products. I couldn’t believe it! I can finally go to a site and shop to my heart’s content without feeling like I gave out something worthless. I’m telling you, kids dig these clothes! And where did I find them? I found it at http://rsavenue.com! Take a look at the Knuckleheads Sweatshirt? Isn’t this cool! Any kid would love to have that. It’s a statement. If you’re looking for a gift for your child or your friend’s child (like I always find myself doing), visit http://rsavenue.com.

Opportunities abound for bloggers.

Published by under Random Thoughts

I was thinking about how much opportunities there are for bloggers and I came to a realization that there are plenty of opportunities out there for anyone if they put their heart into it. Imagine Perez Hilton or Bryanboy. Think fashion, celebrity and you’re there. Why? Because people want to know about people. Celebrities are one target because they are out there. Some people delight in knowing that their idols are just that – humans.

I was elated when I read about Bryanboy meeting Marc Jacobs. I mean, what are the chances? Now, I realized that it is not impossible. One blogger was asking Kevin Costner to visit his blog. They blogged about Kevin Costner as much as they could until one day, the blogger received a photo of Kevin Costner with a laptop beside him – showing his blog. Woah!

Nothing is impossible people. Anything that you put your heart into, blooms into something…good, bad or indifferent. I would choose the good! I would like to meet Robert Buckley someday. Who knows? :D

Tribeca Retail Club’s Designer Weekend – June 6 – June 7 2009~!

Published by under Random Thoughts

If only my friend who’s a designer didn’t move to Chicago. Well, he’s an Interior Designer. I had hoped that he would be a Fashion Designer because he had the knack for clothes. He knew how to pick them and knows what works best for you regardless of your body type. If I had a gift like that, I know I would have gone for it.

What’s exciting is (and that is why I wished he didn’t move to Chicago) is the Tribeca Retail Club’s Designer Weekend in New York dubbed as TRC Designers Market! It’s a chance for designers to showcase their goods, their designs in a loft space at the heart of Tribeca. It’s a great time to make elbow-to-elbow contacts with other designers, mingle, share ideas and most of all – brag about your brand.

If you’re interested – the event will occur on the weekend of JUNE 6th and JUNE 7th. You have to hurry because the designer space is limited to only 20 vendors. The deadline for vendor application is May 25th.

We’re off to Chicago…

Published by under Random Thoughts

Several friends of mine have decided to go on a weekend tour of Chicago. We are leaving on April 24th and coming back April 27th. So, we are calling on our friends in Chicago.. give us a warm welcome please. :D

Three of the friends I am going with haven’t been to Chicago. This will be their first time. I have bragged about the city since I first took a visit. I love Chicago. If only I could move there.

I hope the weather will cooperate, since we’re only going to be there for the weekend. Crossing my fingers.

Different Religions, Different Views – - One God

Published by under Random Thoughts

My interest in other religions have been constant since I was a child. Although I grew up and was raised Catholic, I was still exposed to a lot of different religions during my childhood. My mom believed that we had to understand other religions in order to have a firmer base on our own religion.

I remember Jehova’s Witness were welcomed into our home, including the Mormons. Growing up, I understood one thing. We are still under one God. Regardless of what their religion is, there is one basic premise to what we all believe – and that is, to respect each other and help each other.

I have a friend now who is a devout Catholic but has recently shown interest in Buddhism and Hinduism. He even bought a Buddha Statue (multiple ones) made from different types of material. He orders them online – mostly eBay. But I think you can get all kinds of statues such as a Ganesh Statue and Buddha Statue all over the internet. The good thing about that is that he studies the origin and the history of the statue. He doesn’t purchase them just to have them on display but rather as a conversational piece at his home.

I hope everyone had a nice Easter by the way. I’m going to visit a church this evening just because I missed mass yesterday. Have a great week y’all.

Feeling Guilty…

Published by under Random Thoughts

I am terribly disappointed with myself. I have prepared for it through the 40 days of Lent, only to miss out on going to church on Easter Sunday. I did plan on going and was all excited about it. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, my friends and I even took Good Friday off to do “Visita Iglesia”.

I hope that I can visit a church today and although it won’t count the same as going to mass on Easter Sunday (for me at least), I will try my best to visit and pray some place today…

Graduation – - I can’t wait.

Published by under Random Thoughts

When I decided to go back to school, I didn’t really realize how much work and effort it would take in order to obtain my degree. Luckily, I have a good job and I could technically say that I don’t really need a college degree. I am quite comfortable with my lifestyle and I can pretty much afford “some” luxuries in life. My friends who are college grads themselves, are asking me why I wanted to pursue a degree when I don’t really have to. My reply, “It’s for me. To satisfy me.”
Why did I say that? My plans as a kid didn’t include working and going to school at the same time. I envisioned myself going through life like everyone else does. You go to school, you graduate and then you get a job, get married..blah blah blah. But life isn’t that simple. It makes an interesting story when you get hit by a curve ball to get you off track.. and then, you bounce back and follow the same exact path you had originally planned. I have always seen my future to include a college degree and I will not die without it.

That’s how I feel. That is why I cannot wait when I can finally send them my graduation invitation. The most fun for me will be when I get to customize my invitation and write this all over it, “It was worth it!”. Customizing invitations isn’t so hard anymore. You don’t have to go to a print shop to do it. I will simply go online and customize my invitation to any which way I like and have it mailed to me. Graduation isn’t quite here for me just yet. I do know that one day, it’ll be here – and that will be the happiest day of my life.

Good Friday.

Published by under Random Thoughts

I was up early this morning because I have to prepare for when my friends get here around 10 am. We’re going to do our “now-traditional” visit to seven Churches. I am excited because I actually enjoy the day with them and we usually end up in China Town for lunch after the church visits.

I am making breakfast for them so I better get going now. They should be here within the hour.

I will be praying for all of you and thanks again for keeping my humble blog alive. :D

Nice pleasant days are here again…

Published by under Random Thoughts

I mentioned before that I don’t usually stay in one place for more than five years.I have lived in New York, Maryland, Los Angeles, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The longest I’ve stayed is where I am now where I have stayed for almost 10 years. Funny how life throws a curb ball at you sometimes but this has been a fun ride.

Today was a beautiful day here on the East Coast. Nice breeze, sunny and just absolutely gorgeous! It reminded me of my days when I lived in Torrance, CA. I was very close to the beach cities such as Redondo, Newport, etc. Since I didn’t have much friends while I lived there (not sure why that was!), I usually go to the beach on Sundays, rent cruiser bikes and off I go. I had the greatest time! There are also lots of pubs in and around these beach cities, so at times I would just park my rented beach cruiser bicycle and have a beer or two. That was the most relaxing thing I could do on a Sunday. Well, for a state where it only rains one week a year – - you gotta find something to do so as not to waste the beautiful weather right? I did exactly that.

The beach cruisers are simple bicycles usually with just one speed. These bikes are not for racing. They are for fun and leisure riding. They are also not expensive so you don’t have to be afraid to leave them in front of the pub when getting a refreshment. One guy started the beach cruiser bike business starting with 150 bikes and has grown his business now to a billion dollar business earning his highest in 2005 with sales of $6 billion dollars. Not bad huh?

So today, it reminded me of the lazy days I had while I was there. Living in California was great – I just hoped I made more friends out there. If I did, I would probably still be there right now. Hmmm – - maybe I still could?

If you have experienced riding a beach cruiser, did you know that you can purchase one for $100 dollars? Visit http://www.xyzbike.com/. You may use the coupon code below which is valid for two months to get $5.00 off. Coupon: 5OFFXPP

It’s Holy Week Next Week – What’s the Plan? Visita Iglesia?

Published by under Random Thoughts

I have started an annual tradition that my friends and I take during Holy Week.  It was a tradition taught us by the Spanish and a very Catholic Tradition.  It’s called “Visita Iglesia” or the English equivalent of “Maundy Thursday”.  It falls on the Thursday before Easter.  We visit 14 churches and say the Stations of the Cross and we usually do the visit on foot.

It’s not that hard really but the weather in the Philippines during the month of April is quite hot.  It’s still cool here in the U.S. during that time but to visit 14 churches would be too much so we decided to visit 7 churches and say two of each Stations of the Cross per church and we observe it on Good Friday instead of Maundy or Holy Thursday.  It seems to work quite well.  We liked it so much four years ago and this will be our fourth year of observance.  More friends have joined us during this pilgrimage which starts in South Jersey and ends in Philadelphia.

It’s my way of not forgetting our tradition.  I am looking forward to it.
