Scientific Study on Life After Death?

Published by gaychristians at 11:46 pm under Random Thoughts

Whether you’re a Christian or not, you must have heard of life after death experiences. It could be someone you know or something you saw in a movie or television.

I’ve heard many stories and I even read books about it. As a Christian, I cannot help but believe that there is life after this life. There has to be. Christ spoke of it many times.

The very thing that I like about those stories is the emotion that these people experience at the time. They feel peace, they feel love, happiness. But most of all, they feel the presence of God.

I saw this clip on NBC’s Today Show about a scientific study on Life After Death. A book called, “Evidence of the After Life” written by Dr. Jeffrey Long. And with him was one of the 1300 subjects is Mary Jo who stated her story. What caught me was what she believe God said to her when she reached heaven. She resisted and wanted to stay because of the love and the peace that she felt. God told her that she couldn’t stay and when she asked why, God said, “Have you ever loved anyone on earth with the way that you have been loved here?”

That struck me. Because somehow, I felt that it is the real measure of God’s yard stick on how we can enter heaven. Like what I’ve always said, I only follow one commandment. That commandment is to “Love God with all my heart, with all my mind and with all my soul…and my neighbor as myself.”

That in itself is the most difficult of all. I am too selfish to love my neighbor as myself. But Christ wants me to do that. I strive everyday to follow His will and I fail constantly. Yet, if you sum it all up – He forgives me constantly as well.

Years ago a woman wrote a book of near death experience accounts, At a press signing for the book someone asked her if she came across near death experiences of people going to Hell, she said she came across those stories, often, but didn’t want them in the bookbecause she wanted to keep it positive.

Life is a process of trying to unlearn the ways of selfishness, I guess. That’s why it’s positive to have someone like Jesus as our role model. As for life after death experiences, they are truly fascinating… both the heaven and hell ones. I try not to think about it too often though, as no one truly knows what it will be like on the other side. Tellingly, the Bible itself says very little on the subject, instead focusing our attention on what really matters for us now, which is (as you eloquently put it) to “Love God with all my heart, with all my mind and with all my soul…and my neighbor as myself.” ‘Nuff said really. :)

Hi AB! Welcome to my blog. I have read many books about that as well. Since I’m Catholic, I have read about purgatory as well and people’s near-death experiences saying that a purgatory exists.

Like Meredith’s question – Could it have been because we were pre-programmed that’s why we have these visions when we go through something traumatic? Maybe – but one will never know unless we go through it.

I agree with Tony though.. these stories fascinate me as well whether it’s heaven or hell.

    Thanks for the visit!

just believe in God and you will be okay, nowadays many people with religion (extremist) are retarded, killing eachother in the name of their God, that is crazy.

I just stumbled across your site, and I’ve enjoyed looking around so far. This is such an interesting and eye-opening post, thank you for sharing the video. I consider myself spiritual more than religious, but I definitely believe in life after death. It’s comforting and endlessly interesting to hear stories like these, and to think about what it means for our own day-to-day lives. Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,
    Margo

    Endless Men,

I don’t mean to offend you, but having the word retarded used offends me as I have spent 17 years in my career working with developmentally disabled of all ages, but mostly adults. Many of them get angry at the things that people do in the name of the church, so… Thanks

I do believe that the fundamentalist/evangelical churches have simplistic black and white thinking there is no gray area and the Bible has a lot of gray unless you are willing to really dig deep. They really believe in what they are doing is right. That isn’t crazy that is delusional and ill informed people trying to do what their church says is proper…scary!! People are often surprised that I am a long-time Christian who supports gay rights and have Bibilical information to back up what I say which also is sad that so many others take the Bible without looking at the context and original language.

    Hi,

Well lets see if I can make this smooth and simple. My daughter was developmentally disabled (old term retarded..its OK). She was neither. She was truly a spirit sent here to teach me about why these children and adults are living amongst us. To teach us humility. She had tuberous sclerosis. Seizures everyday with medication and was about a 2 year old and very autistic. However, due to an accident she choke on an orange slice at 24 years of age, was left to us about life support. Then a clairvoyant friend visited us and she in the hospital and saw her spirit above her body and told us all the things she knew here entire life…like a true life review in front of us. Her great grand mother was their with two large Angels waiting for her when she was ready. A few weeks after she past, this woman called us and said before we get the ashes she needs to speak to us. Again our daughter appeared and now so very happy, healthy and whole and gave us so many more moments in her life, one by one. We were so happy and she did go right to God. Asked us to not be sad she would be with us and visit from time to time. She has many times since. But the amazing things were after we got her ashes. I looked at an old picture set my mother had made…which I picked up after our daughter past. As I looked through it. This was an older picture book and my mother had past years before….everything my daughter told us about her life was in order in the way she said it that day after she past. Everything…so much of what I had forgotten. On the anniversary of her passing the last picture taken of her against a blank wall with sunlight beaming in behind her ….well the picture had changed and now behind her was a tunnel with the colors of the rainbow. Dr. Melvin Morse, who has become a friend witnessed this and told me its very much like the drawings of many of his NDE children whom he revived. One boy even called it like a noodle but the color of the rainbows. Another called the tunnel like these bricks that were the color of the rainbow. One morning I thought I had awoke but I was in a golden light. Standing there in front of me was my daughter in a white gown (the one she was cremated in) flowing blond hair and beautifully radiating and she said Hi Daddy and then the alarm really went off and it was dark and I awoke into this world. So I am here as a research biologist for over 30 years to say….we have our mission, when its time to go home…we all meet again. As one of Melvin’s adults told him, its all about love and love drives it all and God is love and if you try to twist it your not doing God any service.
Thanks for allowing me to share our daughters story. Peace.
Lance Beem (for our daughter Kari Lynn Beem)

I am a registered republican & christian that supports gay rights, because those we know are very loving people. Its difficult sometimes to talk about it fully in our culture, but we know many friends who are part of the gay community. Again its all about loving each other, love drives it all and God is all…we are all of God’s love. Trying to twist it into something else is not doing service to any of us. That I can say now with conviction. There are radicals on both sides….they are not expressing God’s love.
Being different doesn’t me your wrong….like my developmentally disabled child…..our difference helps teach us all humility for others.

Hello Lance! Thanks for sharing your story and thanks for supporting gay rights. We share one belief in common and that is – God’s love. It really is the bottom line and regardless of gender, race, origin – we have to learn one thing – how to love one another. The ultimate thing we would ever be judged on is how did we express God’s love among our fellowmen.

And many thanks for sharing your wonderful story about your daughter. I’m sure that she is smiling down at you.
