It was in 1982 when I first attended a Life in the Spirit Seminar at a prison in Manila, Philippines. It was a turning point in my life which eventually led me to accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. It was a journey that I will never forget and a time in my life that I will always cherish.
During that time, I had the hunger for the Word of God. I read the bible almost everyday. I also loved Christian songs. If you asked me then what was number one on the Billboard charts, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I listened to nothing but Christian songs. Christian songs always helped me get closer to God. And it still does.
My favorite among all the albums I owned is an album called “The Dreamer” by the Continental Singers. It’s a compilation of songs that narrates the life of Joseph, son of Jacob. Joseph was one of the most inspiring men in the bible that touched my heart deeply. I loved that album but it was only available in cassette tapes (remember those?). When I came to the United States, I couldn’t find the album. And when CDs came out, the original version was no longer in print and they produced a new one which didn’t have the original songs that I fell in love with.
That was over twenty years ago.
Imagine my surprise when I went to Youtube and searched for Continental Singers, 1983 and found that someone had actually posted the complete album from the original recording!! I was ecstatic and downloaded all the songs immediately. As I was downloading the songs, I was listening to each one of them and found myself crying. I specially cried when “What a world it would be” started playing, thinking about the kids in Newtown, Connecticut.
If you haven’t heard about the album, you should listen to the playlist. You can play it from HERE.
Be prepared to fall in love with it.
